Two hectares of maritime public domain located on the island of New Caledonia in the Pacific southwest, are threatened by a property project particularly intrusive to the marine environment and its environment.
This project, widely criticized by the local population, would allow the construction of luxury bungalows in the Baie des citrons, an area with high ecological value, which is home to many marine species, some of which are endangered. The work planned by the property developer will do serious damage to the coral reef which would be irreparably damaged by the proposed infilling of coastal reef and the creation of an artificial lagoon.
Further deterioration is expected as the destruction of the surrounding vegetation leading to the erosion of the hill during heavy rains.
A survey about the use of the public maritime area is opened at the City of Noumea from October 26 until Monday, November 16th inclusive.
For its part, the association Ensemble pour la Planète invites the citizens and the environmental advocates to sign the petition against the pitching of this future resort, which is already named "Beach Club Hotel.
