Hydrocarbon pollution has been recorded since Saturday along the coast of the Loire-Atlantique without being able to determine its origin.
Analyses are currently carried out by the Centre of Documentation, Research and Experimentation on Accidental Water Pollution (Cedre) and the results should be announced in the coming hours by the Préfecture.
A few hypotheses are under consideration, ‘emptying of fuel tanks’, accident due to the presence of submarine wrecks, stigma of Erika…
The pollution comes under the form of sticky hydrocarbon pellets, reaching 30 cm in diameter, that ended up on the coast of Loire-Atlantique.
In Vendée, a testimonial relayed by Surfrider states that there were mass beaching of dead jellyfishes and molluscs for two days before the hydrocarbon pollution.
Surfrider remains vigilant on this issue and expects to determine the origin of this new pollution as soon as possible. The analyses results will determine our action to come.
