On the 9th of February, the Russian Skulptor Anikushin ship is sent into court, in Le Havre (France), for an illegal rejection of hydrocarbon. Surfrider Foundation attended the trial. Results ? a 400,000-bill against sea-polluters.
The Russian ship is suspected of intentional illegal discharging. Indeed, on the last 28th of July, a customs’ plane observed an illegal rejection into the sea in the wake of the Skulptor Anikushin ship, thus creating the most important pollution by discharging ever detected on that area : a 25- kilometers long and 5-meters large hydrocarbon- zone !
Thus, the prosecutor asked for a few thousands amount-bill against those sea-polluters. Surfrider is waiting for the final verdict to be given, a verdict which should be unveiled during the next months. The Foundation is keeping on working on new trials against polluters and receives everyday an echo in the press. Thanks to the unique dynamism from the whole Surfrider Europe team and the members of the Seine Maritime local chapter (France), a report has been broadcasted on tv, precisely on the France 3-channel, Baie de Seine.
