Create a chapter
Why create your own chapter ?
Because you no longer want to do nothing. Because there is no Surfrider chapter in your area and you want to get involved in the movement. Because you want to inform as many people as possible about the actions of Surfrider. Because your local spot is under threat. At last but not least, you are motivated and have got ideas to share!
How many should you be?
You can create a local chapter with three people (minimum) and later recruit other volunteers. We recommend to establish a core group of five active members to organize, manage and maintain the chapter.
How to get organized?
Chapter chair, vice chair, treasurer… You will need to work together to share responsibilities according to the motivation, skills and time of each. Surfrider guides exist to help you in recruiting volunteers, seeking partnerships and communicate with the media …
What are the first steps?
Contact the manager of the local chapters. We will send you all documents, tools, useful links and contacts. We will take the needed time to help you build your chapter (mission, strategy, ...). Thereafter we formalize by signing a contract and technical charter of local chapters.
What does a local chapter ?
Each chapter should organize beach, lakes or rivers clean-ups during the annual Ocean Initiatives operation. Just as we count on you to take action on the field by doing raising awareness actions, organize events, support environmental issues, etc you can count on us to provide scientific, logistic and human support.
