Macro-waste in brief

  • The United Nations estimates that que 70% of the plastic in the sea will end up in the depths of the ocean, forming a toxic cemetary.
  • According to the director of the United Nations Programme for the Environment (UNPE), 80% of the trash found on our beaches is of continental origin.
  • On average each year, 400 to 4000 Kg of trash is beached per kilommeter of coast. (Source Fondation Nicolas Hulot)

Neither French national law nor international law defines macro-waste. The only functional criteria that determines if the object in question is trash is whether or not it was abandoned.
