Participate in the sustainable development of our territories

To achieve its goal of reinforcing its actions on the other side of the border, Surfrider Foundation Europe has brought in three partner organizations, the Basque Surfing Federation (EHSF), Eusko Ikaskuntza (the Basque studies center), and the General County Council of the Pyrénées Atlantiques (64), to launch a 3 year project covering the area stretching from Bilbao to Hossegor.

The project was presented on 30th June 2008 as part of a bid to collaborate in a European program for cross-border cooperation between France, Spain and Andorra. The projects selection will be announced in November 2008.

MARE URDINA  operates around 4 working poles :

  • Protection of the coastline
  • Educational and Environmental awareness
  • Development of the natural heritage
  • Communication and Action

This latter pole is the mission of MARE URDINA, whose goal is to be a project in which participation is needed. Its aim is to activate people of the Basque region to get them involved in the Mare Urdina project, thereby making them aware of the importance of their environmental wealth and by getting them to know it, value it, protect it and preserve it.

For that, Surfrider Foundation Europe and its partners will activate its network with the aim of bringing in as many people as possible.

Surfrider Foundation Europe therefore counts on the whole population of the trans-border area, inhabitants, visitors, young people, the general public, to participate in activities organized around this project in order to make sustainable development everybody’s business.
