Gironde - Wooded Beach in Betey

After having been contacted by the association "Le Betey, a wooded beach to be preserved", in 2008, Surfrider joined the battle to put a halt to the project. 

In September 2009, a beach funeral was held, organised in cooperation with Le Betey association and the Surfrider Gironde Chapter. Both, Surfrider and the Keeper contacted the local council and invited them to join the dialogue, but received no response.

In october 2008, the Green Party MP Noël Mamère published a parliamentary question in the official gazette of the French Republic in the context of the Environmental Grenelle . He asked which measures ere going to be put  into place to ensure that Betey Beach would no longer be threatened by the marina  development and coastal urbanisation in general.

In July 2011, Surfrider took part in the public consultation.

In September 2011, the investigating commissioner released  his conclusions within the report on the investigating and expressed this opinion that the PLU (land use plans) should be reviewed. The local council voted on the new land use plans in October 2011, confirming the pier extension. Shortly after, a press conference gathering around 1, 500 people was held. In its wake, six law suits were filed at the Administrative Tribunal in Bordeaux. The MEP Catherine Grèze has recently announced her position against a marina extension of Andernos-les-Bains that ould decimate the wooded beach of Betey by a third.
