Morbihan - Kerguelen Waste Disposal

Date de dépôt 17/07/2008

Pays : France - Département : Morbihan - Ville : Larmor Beach - Plage : Kerguélen

Objet

The beach at Kerguélen, popular with local families, has suffered a strong unpleasant smell coming from the outlet of a drain as a result of carrying domestic waste water and rubbish.

État des lieux

The small Breton community of Larmor Beach has a fantastic location. Situated 5km from the town of Lorient, it benefits from more than 6km of coastline and 3km of fine sandy beaches. It is hard to imagine not being upset by the alarming situation at one of its main beaches at Kerguélen. This large beach is an integral part of the Kerguélen Oceanic Park, which is protected by the coastal conservatory. This ideal location for water sports and nature lovers is being polluted with the smell, dirty water and domestic waste flowing from a drain outlet. As a result, Surfrider is following the case closely and is collecting information in order to mount a campaign to bring an end to this illegal contamination.
