Due to the lack of maintenance, the dune suffers from a lack of stability, erosion, waste and people frequently walking outside the alleys designed to reach the beach.
État des lieux
In Seignosse Le Penon, one deplores that people repeatedly walk outside the alleys to reach the beach weakening the stability of the dune already eaten into by the strong winds of winter. Consequently to these incivilities, holes appear enabling the sand to go deeper inland. In other words, it accelerates the natural erosion process of this site.
By the end of 2010, the French Ministry of Agriculture has decided to assign sand dune management to the National Office of Forests (Office national des forêts). Fighting against wind erosion and preventing foot traffic, which are priority cases, had just been committed to the NOF and teams, which will remain in December.
Moreover, a more complete study on restoration and organization of public presence is being part of the renovation Penon beach plan. The NFB assured that the protection aspects of dune areas and pipeline attendance are taken into account.
