Laboratories missions

The quality of our bathing water is becoming more and more under threat.

Surfrider Foundation Europe is putting in place action plans to provide users of the Coastline with better information and also to ensure that watersports enthusiasts are not forgotten.
Throughout Europe, Surfrider is collaborating with independent Laboratories to better understand the pollution problems of the Coastline.
In this way we can monitor the quality of water in bathing zones and watersports zones, in conjunction with existing networks, all year around; which is not currently required by the 2006 directive on "bathing water".

Our Laboratories in this way provide independent Scientific data which encourages communication between local contributors and helps to resolve contamination problems.

Methodology

More than 30 volunteers, called watermen testers, participate in these samples. They are part of club surfing, bodyboarding, sailing, diving, associations ...

Samples collected by watermen testers are analyzed in laboratories of Surfrider. In accordance with regulations applicable to bathing water, the concentrations of Escherichia coli and Enterococci are analyzed.

Join Watermen testers

Surfrider needs you, member or volunteer, to take samples on a regular basis on your beach or your water sport area.

You are motivated and want to act, feel free to contact one of our laboratories.
