What is a local chapter?
Participate in an associative project
Surfrider act on 5 fronts, which are all areas of work for the local chapters (Water quality and Health, Marine Litter, Maritime Transport and Infrastructures, Artificial Coast and Climate Change, Heritage and Waves). Each chapter defines their actions, in function of it´s area of influence and sets goals in the short and long term, falling within the areas of work of the association.
Volunteers and Structure
Consisting of 2 or 20 volunteers, the Surfrider chapters have no imposed form, but the roles are distributed and members meet regularly to prepare their actions. We support the volunteers with a structure adapted to their fight and their area of action.
Local actions and a local role
The chapters are conducting a variety of actions on the field and innovate to increase the visibility of their struggle. Some examples:
- Raising awareness amongst young people in the schools (with education tools, animations, movies,…)
- Organization of beach cleaning, lakes and rivers (with groups of children or the large public)
- Presence or organization of events (sports events, music festivals ...)
- Local monitoring of environmental problems
